George Kraft began his cabinet and chair-making business in 1856 on East Main Street, and shortly thereafter added funeral services. The business relocated to this site by 1921, into a mid-19th century brick structure. The current Classical Revival facade was likely added sometime in the mid-1930s, to give the building a more modern and formal look. Kraft Funeral Services is one of New Albany's state-recognized centennial businesses.
